Engage Authentically
Social media gets a bad rap for being inauthentic and spammy. Devil's advocate? Instagram is only as good as what we put into it. If you make the decision to put good into social media, I promise good will come out of it!
Monitor your Usage
Try to be aware of the amount of time you take your phone out and open Instagram without thinking – you may surprise yourself with exactly how much more time you’re spending on social media than you think. If you're not opening the app for a specific purpose (to post, engage with people, or simply to have a few free minutes to scroll) then try putting the phone down for a few.
Block the Negative
If something does not bring you joy or raise your elevation, block with abandon! Some of the things we see and some of the people we deal with on social media create a negative experience. Social media should be enjoyable and stress-free. You owe no one an explanation as to why you've blocked or unfollowed them. You're curating your own space - and that's ok!
Post with purpose
When you’re posting just to get new followers or sell something, it shows. Self-promotion is wonderful, but if all you’re doing is trying to promote yourself and you’re not contributing or supporting your e-community in any other way, it’s likely that people will have trouble really committing to you and your brand – whether that’s as an artist, a blogger, an author, an influencer, whatever. For most people, it’s really nice to see into the lives of the people they’re interacting with, and to get to know the kind of person they are behind the selfies and memes.
